Your brain is a private MCP server. Any AI client that speaks MCP (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, and others) can read it live, authenticated as you, filtered to exactly what you are allowed to see. Nothing is copied to your device and there is no separate app to open.

The three steps, whatever the client

  1. Add the brain as a connector. Paste your MCP URL where the client asks for a remote MCP server. Each guide below shows the exact menu.
  2. Sign in and authorize. The client opens a LAN Brain sign-in page. Use your usual account, approve, and the tools appear in the client.
  3. Tell your AI to actually use it. Connecting is not the same as adopting. Paste the short instructions block from the Connect tab into the client's custom instructions. This is what makes the AI search the brain before answering about your work instead of guessing from memory. See Custom instructions.

What your AI can do once connected

The brain exposes a small set of tools. Reading tools look up pages, search, follow links between people, projects and decisions, and read the change history. Writing tools let the AI file a page, suggest a change, or fold a correction back into the brain. Every tool respects your access: a page your role cannot see never reaches the AI. Which client should I use?

  • Claude if you want the smoothest path: connect once on the web and the same connector follows you to the desktop app and your phone.
  • ChatGPT if your company runs on it. You need a Business, Enterprise or Edu plan for full support, and it is web only.
  • Gemini if you are on Google Workspace. The consumer app supports custom connectors for US personal accounts; companies go through Gemini Enterprise.
  • Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code if you write code. The brain becomes the context your coding agent reads before it touches your repo.
